This class covers the historical basis of US laws and due process; the sources of law in America; Constitutional law; and the responsibilities of law enforcement officials and humane investigators. We will cover the various types of law and types of crime found in the United States; the presumption of innocence; the elements of a crime, and the burdens / levels of proof necessary in a court of law. We will also examine search and seizure; the necessity of Miranda Rights in animal control cases; and civil liability. Most students complete the course in ____ to____ hours.
